The emergency room at the Freising Clinic is being further upgraded.

A new chief physician, who has been on duty since January, is supposed to push ahead with the modernization.

Freising

- With an upgrade and a new head physician, the Freising Clinic is strengthening its central emergency department.

This was announced by the hospital spokesman Sascha Alexander.

The chief physician for emergency care, which has now been expanded into a separate department, is Martin Kawald, a specialist in internal medicine.

He started his service at the hospital at the beginning of the year.

"The systematic expansion of the Freising Clinic's range of services will continue in 2022," emphasized Alexander in a press release. An important step in this direction was the official upgrading of the house to "extended emergency care" (level 2) in September 2021. "This means, among other things, that in addition to the specialist departments of surgery, trauma surgery and internal medicine, at least four other specialist departments must be involved in emergency care and be available around the clock." Other conditions are good medical and technical equipment, at least ten intensive care beds (the clinic currently operates up to 15 beds) as well as at least six surveillance beds for so-called short-stay guests, which were recently set up in the emergency room.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

As part of this leap in quality, "the previous central emergency room is being transformed into an independent specialist department with a chief physician," explains Alexander.

"With Mr. Kawald, the clinic was able to win an experienced doctor for this position." Kawald is a specialist in internal medicine and has additional qualifications in intensive care medicine, "clinical acute and emergency medicine" and "emergency medicine".

Kawald comes from the Rotkreuzklinikum Munich.

He had been a senior physician there since January 2019 and built up the interdisciplinary intermediate care department (IMC).

Before that, he worked there from 2014 to 2019 as a senior physician in the 2nd Medical Department with a focus on gastroenterology.

The focus of his future work at the clinic is the optimization of all internal processes and resources of the central emergency room, the development of a new statute and training concept as well as close cooperation with the other departments such as radiology.

The latter is now also set up as a central service provider for the specialist departments with its own chief physician and can in future carry out additional treatments in the field of interventional radiology in emergencies, for example.

At the same time, technical modernization and digitization of the central emergency room as well as a conversion of the access and waiting area are planned.

New chief physician, close cooperation with all specialist departments is important

District Administrator and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Helmut Petz, Doreen Schubert, Head of Personnel and Organization at the Freising Clinic, and Dr. Markus Neumaier, Medical Director of the clinic, welcomed Kawald on behalf of the clinic management and wished him every success. "The upgrading of the hospital's emergency room is an important concern of the district policy," emphasized District Administrator Petz. "We are very pleased to have gained an experienced and committed head physician in Martin Kawald, who will drive the reorganization and modernization of the emergency room and further strengthen the importance of the Freising Clinic for extended emergency care in the district and the region."

Kawald emphasized that he was very much looking forward to the new task of establishing modern and medically high-quality clinical acute and emergency medicine in the clinic.

“In addition to the close cooperation with all specialist departments within the clinic, good communication and cooperation with the rescue services and the emergency doctors, the fire brigade, but also the general practitioners in the district is very important to me.

This is the only way to ensure excellent, comprehensive emergency care for the entire population. "
