For the citizens of the southwest, not so much will change after the corona switch from the federal and state governments on Friday.

Because in this country there is already a test obligation for vaccinated and convalescent people who have not yet been boosted in restaurants or fitness clubs.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) praised the nationwide introduction of the stricter test rules that was decided on Friday.

Stuttgart - "Today's resolutions are largely based on what already applies in Baden-Württemberg - for example with a view to 2G plus in the catering trade or the FFP2 mask rule," said Kretschmann on Friday after the meeting. "It is good that there is now a nationwide sharpening here."

Kretschmann said that one had to assume that the number of cases would gain significantly in dynamics with the increasing spread of Omikron and that hospital admissions would increase again. "Today's signal is very clear: we want to minimize risks and contacts, control the Omikron wave and protect the health system and critical infrastructure from overload." In the current situation, it is responsible and correct, the isolation and quarantine times are balanced nationwide adapt. The country will continue its “course of prudence”. The corresponding rules would be extended in the cabinet next week until further notice in line with the decision of the federal and state governments.

"It was important to me that we reaffirmed the requirement for a general compulsory vaccination," said Kretschmann. "We have formulated the clear expectation that the Bundestag will soon present a timetable for the relevant legislation."

In the fight against the omicron variant of the corona virus, which is also rapidly spreading in Germany, the access rules for restaurants, cafes and pubs are being tightened nationwide.

The federal government and state heads of government agreed on Friday that a 2G-plus rule should apply nationwide in the future, regardless of the number of infections.

Vaccinated and convalescent people then have to show a daily negative corona test or a booster vaccination.

However, not all countries want to participate.

It was also decided to shorten and simplify the quarantine for contact persons and the isolation of infected people.
