Lenovo's new smartwatch with Alexa is perfect for kids

2022-01-07T23:02:13.848Z

During CES 2022, Lenovo introduced this watch that integrates the Google Assistant and, for the first time, Amazon's Alexa.

We enjoy our time with Lenovo smart watches, which include nice screens and Google Assistant voice functionality in a series of cute-looking alarm clocks for your nightstand.

But if you prefer Amazon's Alexa, the brand will finally integrate it into its new Lenovo Smart Clock Essential with Alexa built in.

  • ASUS takes inspiration from space to create this new laptop

Unveiled at CES 2022, the watch will be released in the first month of the year for $ 59.99.

The Smart Clock Essential with Alexa packs some promising features into an attractive, affordable little accessory, and works with some adorable, kid-friendly light bases.

We were able to spend a little hands-on time with Lenovo's latest smartwatch before its official launch.

Here are our first impressions:

Same cool design, now with Alexa

The Lenovo Smart Clock Essential with Alexa looks just like the brand's previous smartwatches, and that's not a bad thing.

Lenovo's little alarm clock has an attractive mesh lining that comes in blue or clay red, as well as large physical buttons on the top to control the volume or snooze that morning alarm.

Its digital LED display looks bright and bold, and while we didn't get a chance to test the audio, it includes front speakers for playing music and waking you up in the morning.

  • Samsung's Freestyle Project at CES 2022: Small, Portable, and Ideal for Home

The big difference is that it is now compatible with Amazon's Alexa virtual assistant.

And for people already deeply connected to the Alexa ecosystem, this watch is ideal for doing things like ordering items on Amazon using your voice, or controlling any Alexa-compatible smart home device you have at home.

A watch that "gives life" to objects

While the latest Lenovo Smart Clock is lovely and functional on its own, it really came to life once we were able to use it with Lenovo's new ambient light bases.

Once attached to the watch, these springs can glow in different colors to set the mood, and they even come with their own special effects that are reflected on the watch's display.

  • The Razer Zephyr Pro is a $ 149 mask that will also amplify your voice

We tested Ambient Light inspired by a seal and an octopus, and once we put the watch on it, the screen briefly became the "eyes" of their respective sea creature.

It is a lovely effect and perfect for children.

Is the best option?

The Lenovo Smart Clock Essential with Alexa seems like a solid option for people who want an alarm clock that can also control all of their devices with Alexa at home.

But should you buy one instead of an Echo Dot (

MX $ 999 and

$ 32.98) from Amazon, which sells for less and is often discounted for less?

Because the Echo Dot is more of a circle showing the time through its mesh exterior, we could see that Lenovo's option appeals to people who want something that looks more like a traditional alarm clock with a large screen, which also has the Echo Show 8 (

MX $ 2,699 and

USD $ 109) from Amazon.

And while both clocks support external mounts for additional lighting and customization, Lenovo's Ambient Light Stands could be especially appealing to people who want to add a fun, kid-friendly touch to their alarm clock.

Lenovo's latest alarm clock is one of our finalists for the best of CES 2022, and we look forward to testing it out soon.
