Republican Congressman Liz Cheney has called former US Vice President Mike Pence a "hero" for his behavior around the attempted storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Because the then President Donald Trump and his supporters wanted to prevent a certification of Joe Biden's election victory by Congress.

"Pence was a hero," said Liz Cheney, largely isolated in her party, in an interview with US broadcaster NBC. Pence did his duty and US citizens should be grateful to him for it, Cheney said. The Trump critic was appointed to the investigative committee to investigate the attack on the Capitol a year ago. Cheney said she was looking forward to working with Pence and his team again. When asked whether the panel was considering recommending charges against Trump over the storming of the Capitol, Cheney said, "We'll certainly look at this." The committee would "get to the bottom of everything that went on that day." she announced.

Hundreds of supporters of the voted Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021.

They brutally beat overtaxed police officers and drove MPs and senators to flee.

Trump had ordered the mob to the US capital and announced that it would be "wild".

In Washington there were various events on Thursday to commemorate the unprecedented outbreak of violence.

President Biden directly blamed Trump for the bloody attack in a speech in the Capitol (read an analysis of the speech here).

"For the first time in our history a president lost the election and then tried to prevent a peaceful change of power." Trump had built a "web of lies about the 2020 election" and put his own advantage, "his ego", over des Country.

Members of both Congress Chambers in turn reported their personal experiences and fears on that day.
