Munich increases the parking fees.

In the future, this will primarily affect tradespeople, tradespeople and commuters.

However, there is no legal basis to increase the costs for resident parking permits.

Munich - For craftsmen and tradespeople, parking in Munich * will be even more expensive in 2022.

But commuters will probably also have to dig deeper into their pockets.

The city council should finally approve a proposal by the administration in the next general assembly (January 19).

The positive vote is considered certain, the Greens * and SPD * want to raise the fees.

According to this, tradespeople and sales representatives would pay 720 euros for a parking card in the future, up to now it is 265 euros.

This corresponds to an increase of 172 percent.

The costs for commercial residents (company vehicles) climb by 500 percent.

Businesspeople will soon have to pay 720 euros, up to now it has been 120 euros.

Munich wants to increase parking fees: price increase of 172 percent

Prices are also apparently increasing for commuters.

The fees for time parking (per hour) in the parking license areas will soon be increased from one euro to 1.90 euros, the daily fee will rise from six to eleven euros.

Initially, the fees for time parking in the old town (2.50 euros) and for residents' parking will remain unaffected.

Munich residents currently pay 30 euros per year for a parking permit.

This applies in the 62 license areas Monday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Graduations had already been debated in the city council, for example according to the size of the vehicles or according to pollutant emissions.

In order for Munich to be able to raise these fees, the Free State would have to issue an ordinance.

Originally, that should have happened in the fall.

Increase in the fees for a parking permit: "Public space is rare in Munich"

"We continue to urge that we as a municipality can decide for ourselves how high the fees for a resident parking permit are," says Green City Councilor Gudrun Lux *. In the context of the debate about the traffic turnaround, she describes the price increase for craftsmen and tradespeople as logical. “Public space is rare in Munich, and we have to turn all the screws that are available to us,” says Lux. Especially since the costs for the craftsmen are tax-deductible.

The parking fees in Munich have not increased significantly for years, only as part of the City2Share model district in five parking license areas close to the city center.

In comparison, the cost of public transport tickets increases every year.

SPD City Councilor Nikolaus Gradl says: “Raising parking fees is not an easy step and also not an end in itself.

We therefore want to use the income from the increase to improve the range of services offered by the Munich transport company. ”In addition, reductions for midwives, social services and electric cars are being considered.
