Something is going on at the Taufkirchen mega construction site - when the holidays are over.

Taufkirchen - It is progressing, albeit not as quickly as originally thought by the community.

Due to the weather, there is still a lot under water on the large construction site for the middle school in Taufkirchen.

The sometimes heavy rainfall in summer as well as material shortages in the underground pipeline area made conditions somewhat difficult, admitted construction manager Stefan Storde from the company baupunkt8 from Urtlfing near Dorfen.

Nevertheless, he was optimistic during a construction site inspection to which Taufkirchen's mayor Stefan Haberl had invited.

Managing director Martin Bauer, building authority manager Günter Mayr, clerk Valentin Waxenberger, Taufkirchen's press officer Renate Bauer, rector Adi Geier and his deputy Gabriele Reiss were also present at the inspection.

The civil engineer provided open and clear information about the current construction progress in the three main areas: “the most complex structure”, i.e. the replacement middle school, the connection to the primary school and the new construction of the multi-purpose hall.

In the area of the connecting structure and the middle school, almost all of the basement walls, some of them over five meters high, have been concreted over the last few weeks.

The concrete slab for the multi-purpose hall is to be erected this week.

The steel weavers did a good job.

"Then we are winter-proof, can make a good cut and take a winter break," said Storde.

More than 10,000 cubic meters of earth and backfill had to be moved to create the base of the excavation.

Around 8,000 cubic meters of concrete and more than 1,300 tons of steel will probably have to be used for the building, explained the site manager.

"We see challenges mainly in the unforeseeable developments in the building materials market and in the corona pandemic itself."

A caretaker's building is also planned - near the many containers and the Stephansbrünnlbach. Between 28 and 35 construction workers from the Bauer company from Hautzenberg near Passau live there. Because many of them are from Croatia and Romania, “just specialized experts”, praises the 38-year-old Storde, trying to stretch out the Christmas holidays. Because some would have up to 2000 kilometers home. If the weather allows it, it will continue here from January 10th.

There are also surprises on the construction site again and again, such as a wall pillar behind a facade that is not listed in the inventory. Actually, a prefabricated double-walled part should have been placed against the wall here. Now the structural engineer has to decide whether the pillar or the double wall should be cut out. Or the “elevator underpass” in the future warehouse, which is under water, and which Haberl compared to a “plunge pool after a sauna session”.

It is the largest property in terms of construction volume that he and his partner Florian Wimmer look after as site manager, stated Storde. To date, the two have taken over many residential complexes for the company Sperr and Zellner. In Taufkirchen they work for the company Köhler Architekten from Gauting, who won the architectural competition for the construction project five years ago. Mayor Haberl is pleased that the site managers are from the region. When it comes to construction times, the Bauer construction company is in contact with the community.

The question of which period is valid has not yet been clarified.

“We want to finish the largest shell, component A, in October next year,” says Storde.

The other, already finished shell structures would then be gradually expanded.

The multipurpose hall and the connecting structure will probably be finished the quickest.

"The work should be completed by the end of 2023, the rectification of defects and rework in the first three months of 2024." With a buffer, May 2024 is a realistic target for the takeover, according to the civil engineer.
