16 children on the waiting list

For 32 years now, the integration aid association for foreign children and young people in Gilching has been taking care of compensating for educational and language gaps as much as possible - even in times of Corona.
Now the club has taken stock of the past year.

- "Like the schools, we moved between total lockdown, alternating lessons on cell phones, WhatsApp and regular face-to-face teaching, as in the previous year," explains chairwoman Elke Dietrich in her report. To make matters worse, many of the predominantly older employees decided to take a break due to the risk of infection. “Of the 60 or so volunteers, 25 remained.
Despite the adverse circumstances, we started the new school year 2021/2022 optimistically with a total of 40 children and young people from 13 different countries ”. And where there is shadow, there are also rays of light, Dietrich is convinced. “Fortunately, we got support from some interns from the Fachoberschule (FOS), which we could use in our various groups. The cooperation with the FOS has proven itself, so we hope to continue to receive this support in the future. "
The general meeting was able to take place in October 2020 "just in time for the introduction of stricter contact restrictions". After Dieter Ebbinghaus resigned as chairman after 17 years in office, his deputy Dietrich was elected as his successor. She is assisted by Petra Klügl as the second chairwoman. She has been a volunteer supervisor since 2012. "Although I work full-time, I was happy to take on this job," she emphasizes. “For me it is a valuable compensation for my work in the office. It's just fun to get involved with the children, to address their problems in order to be able to support them individually. It is admirable how quickly these children and young people learn a language that is new to them when they get involved.“It is therefore also noteworthy that the integration aid has been providing an important contribution to school and parents for 32 years, enabling children with a migrant background to graduate from school and thus to vocational training.
In this context, Dietrich appeals to people who like children and can spare some time to volunteer in the association.
“At the moment there are 16 children on the waiting list.
The need for helpers is unbroken ”, emphasized the new chairwoman.
