The situation was dynamic and confusing until the early evening.
The police initially did not announce the total number of participants.
First up to 1,500 participants had gathered in the afternoon on the old market of the state capital, as a police spokesman said.
The entrances to the square have been blocked in order to comply with the hygiene regulations.
At the rally in front of the town hall, corona vaccinations, tests and the wearing of protective masks were criticized.
It was called for "disobedience".
"Don't let yourself be forbidden to run," they said.
Then people from the direction of the Alter Markt set out through the city center.
Protest marches were also on their way from other directions.

According to the police spokesman, around 50 vehicles took part.

In Saxony-Anhalt, demonstrations registered at least 48 hours in advance are generally not restricted, but if there are more than ten participants, the competent assembly authority, in consultation with the health authority, can restrict, prohibit or impose conditions.
In the last week of December, the Magdeburg police tightened the rules for unannounced demonstrations by means of a general decree.
Protests that have not been registered are only allowed to take place there.
Protest marches through the streets are then prohibited.
There is also an obligation to wear a mask and to adhere to distance rules.
