The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan announced today the arrest of its former head, Karim Masimov, on suspicion of high treason.
The committee stated in a statement that Masimov was arrested after opening an investigation into accusations of high treason on January 6, indicating that "on the same day Masimov was suspected of committing this crime, he was arrested and placed in a temporary detention center with others."
It is noteworthy that Masimov was previously dismissed from his post after protesters stormed government buildings in Alma-Ata.
