A banner with the inscription “Shop space for rent” causes a lot of excitement in Emmering.

The lettering is emblazoned above the entrance of the Nahkauf supermarket on the main street and announces the apparently imminent closure of the only grocery store left in the center of the village.

Emmering - In fact, the property is already being offered on the Immobilienscout24.de internet portal with the slogan “Beautiful retail space in the heart of Emmering”.

The earliest rental date mentioned there is June 1, 2022.

But neither the current tenant nor the owner family want to really get out with the language. Because of ongoing negotiations, everyone involved is keeping a low profile. The landlady told the daily newspaper at least that she would be “very interested” if a grocery store were to be located in the 646 square meter room in the future. But there are also “other things that would fit perfectly into the main street”. The owner family has announced a decision by the end of January.

The Nahkauf Group, which belongs to the Rewe Group, has no influence on the development at the Emmering location. "We only deliver the goods, everything else is a matter for the independent businessman there," said press spokeswoman Rosmarie Anthofer when asked by the daily newspaper. The building complex with residential, practice and business premises on Hauptstrasse was built in the early 1980s and is family-owned. Above all, the older population group in the district north of the Amper (popularly known as Dürr-Emmering) would be hit hard by the loss of the only shopping opportunity and cause infrastructural problems.

Although there is a Rewe supermarket in southern Fett-Emmering and some discounters in neighboring Fürstenfeldbruck can be reached within three kilometers, the town center would lose a customer hub that is also important for the other shops.

Especially since the only post office is located in Nahkauf.

Therefore, the bad news also startled the Emmeringen town hall, where no one suspected anything of the development until the Tagblatt inquiry.

3. Mayor Werner Öl (CSU), who holds the position for his party colleague and town hall boss Stefan Floerecke, who is on holiday, describes it as "our fundamental interest that the local supply of the population remains assured".

Oil regards it as "imperative" that the municipality contact the landlord immediately.
