Guatemala Charges Coyotes After Deadly Chiapas 1:56 Accident

The Government of Guatemala reported on Friday in a statement that an agent of the National Civil Police (PNC) died and eight more were injured by firearms in an ambush by an armed group, when they were available to carry out search tasks in the Nahualá municipality, Sololá department.
The agents participated in an operation to find those responsible for the death of 12 people and a police officer, in the area between Nahulá and Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán, on December 17.
This Saturday the government reported on its Twitter account that the wounded soldiers are "in the process of recovery and their health is stable."
The police officers, who according to the Government were complying with a court order, were received with shots, stones, sticks and machetes in the mountainous area and from some homes.

On December 17, the Police reported that 12 civilians and one of their agents were killed on a highway in the village of Chiquix, in the department of Sololá.
Among the deceased were men, children and women.
Two police officers were also injured, a semi-burned truck and a patrol car with bullet holes were found at the scene.

The residents of Nahualá and Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán have had a dispute over land rights for more than 100 years.
The constant confrontations have caused the governments of the day to declare a state of siege on several occasions.
Such is the case now.
The Government of President Giammattei decreed this measure in those municipalities, on December 20.
