The Pakistani authorities announced that the death toll from the heavy snow that swept through the northern province of Punjab and trapped thousands of people has risen to 22.
At least 22 people, including 10 children, were killed in the famous mountain resort of Morey after getting stuck in their cars during the night during a heavy snow storm with low temperatures, the Associated Press of America quoted Atiq Ahmed, a Pakistani police officer, as saying today.
Ahmed added that most of the victims died due to hypothermia, pointing out that thousands of vehicles were pulled from the ice after being stuck in it for long hours.
And the Minister of Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said earlier that the thickness of the snow reached nearly a meter in the Muri Hills resort area, which led to the trapping of thousands of cars on the roads.
