Opinion | Union on the right? The way will decide, not the leader Israel today

2022-01-08T22:26:55.964Z

Some present an almost symmetrical picture between the ideological crossing of the right and a new hope, and the democratic choice of Likud members Benjamin Netanyahu

"The right-wing camp needs to be reunited," he said.

Only that the message of general peace obscures the essence: how did we reach a state of "unity"?

The right was rather united.

Until a party was formed that split the camp when it vehemently opposed sitting in government with Benjamin Netanyahu, and another party abandoned the camp after the election, preferring the post of prime minister in a coalition with anti-Zionists over a united right-wing camp.

So are the calls for unification concerned with the re-acceptance of a new and right-wing hope for the right-wing camp? Or is the union referring to the supporters of these parties, who are now remembered to weep for their actions? Union unification is important, but it can only occur when the latter realize that the first to leave the camp have passed the point of no return. Unification on the right will be possible only when the understanding is reached, that there will be no revival when parts of the camp are willing to disqualify their colleagues and allow the people of the opposing camp to determine for them who will head them. And finally, such a unification will be possible only when the cry of the people of the right-wing camp against anti-democratic injustices is at least as strong as that of harming their property.

Last week, Yifat Ehrlich wrote in this newspaper that one can be angry at those who formed the government with RAAM, and at the same time one can "be angry at the Likud for repeatedly failing to field a leader who will win the election and unite the camp." A new hope, which led to the overthrow of the right-wing government, and the democratic choice of Netanyahu members of Netanyahu

. At the time, he also supported "moving" Netanyahu (for the presidency) in favor of another candidate who would want to sit with him. .

These quotes are not important in themselves, but the collective spirit that blows from them, reflecting, still, the same basic mistake. The pursuit of Netanyahu is not personal. The 315 unfounded clauses could have been attached to an indictment against any other right-wing prime minister. The battle is on its way. And the way is no less than the continuation of the State of Israel being Jewish and democratic.

For years a certain elite tried to diminish the Jewish character of the state.

Whether on the issue of conversion or immigration or on the Palestinian issue - all of these were promoted by it in a framework that was presented as even more important to it - the democratic value.

But when the desired change was not achieved, and the people did not agree with its message, the understanding was reached that it was permissible to reduce the democratic space and to slowly entrust public decisions to unelected parties.

Netanyahu's 'move' is part of the same struggle against Demus.

If you will, first less democratic, and then less Jewish.

When the entire right-wing camp understands this connection between the personal and the collective, between the democratic and the Jewish (struggle), not only will the union take place spontaneously, but its ideological path will be guaranteed.
