Seriously ill with leukemia: Anne (34) from Kolbermoor needs stem cell donors

Anne is a power woman.

She enjoys being in the fresh air, going hiking, cycling or walking the dog.

The 34-year-old enjoys her life to the full.

The shock was deep when the doctors diagnosed her with leukemia in March 2021.

From then on, Anne's life was determined by hospital stays and visits to the doctor.

She has to endure five chemotherapies.

She is losing her hair and her physical strength.

But the young woman does not give up.

She resolutely fights against her illness.

Then in August the bright spot.

She defeated blood cancer.

Anne, her family and friends are relieved.

But the joy is short-lived.

A quarter of a year later, a follow-up examination reveals: the cancer is back - and more violent than ever.

Terminally ill: stem cell donation is Anne's only chance for a second life

Anne's chances of recovery are slim.

Chemotherapy can kill the cancer cells again and again, but they also make Anne weaker and weaker.

The only way to save the once joyful young woman is to donate stem cells.

But there is no suitable donor from family or friends and acquaintances.

According to the DKMS, there are eleven million registered DKMS donors worldwide.

95,000 people were able to start a second life through the stem cell donor.

But there is no suitable donor for Anne in the worldwide card index.

A race against time begins for women with cancer.

Each new cycle of chemotherapy reduces the chances of success.

“We have to find a suitable donor as soon as possible.

This is Anne's only chance for a normal life, ”says Kathrin Schmidtschläger.

The desperation cannot be ignored in her voice as she talks about the fate of her longtime friend Anne.

They have experienced a lot with their group of seven girls.

"We went to festivals in Hungary, in the Europapark and went on many vacations together," says Schmidtschläger.

Stem cell donation: Team Anne organizes typing campaign

All of this is no longer possible.

Anne is tied to the bed and needs care around the clock.

"Because of the many chemotherapies, Anne is very weak," reports Schmidtschläger.

Anne couldn't even hold a telephone receiver.

The girlfriends can no longer accept that.

“We could no longer stand by and watch,” explains Schmidtschläger.

The seven women decide to find a stem cell donor for Anne.

As the German Cancer Society writes on its homepage, it usually takes an average of three weeks after a stem cell transplant until the foreign bone marrow has grown and the blood values have regenerated.

If the transplant is successful, the patient is permanently cured.

As “Team Anne”, the friends start looking for supporters.

In the company Stettner Weinkellerei und Edelobstbrennerei you will find a patron for your typification campaign: company owner Franz Stettner.

He makes his premises available for the stem cell donation.

The voluntary fire brigade of the city of Kolbermoor and the integrated control center * of the city of Rosenheim also support the organization of the typification campaign.
