The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, declared the 10th of this month a national day of mourning for the victims of the recent riots and violence in the country.
"Due to the large number of victims as a result of the tragic events in a number of regions of the country, the president decided to declare a day of national mourning," TASS news agency quoted Kazakh presidential press secretary Brik Awali as saying today.
Tokayev had previously confirmed that it was extremist terrorist gangs trained abroad that led the riots, which resulted in the killing and wounding of dozens of policemen and officers.
