Two American tourists and a Swiss were killed in a collision between a minibus and a truck Friday (January 7) in the province of Puntarenas, in western Costa Rica, said a representative of the prosecution.

The minibus, whose driver of Costa Rican nationality is also deceased, was heading towards the tourist region of Guanacaste on the Pacific coast.

Traffic police said the minibus struck the truck while passing, fell into a ditch and some of the bags of sugar the truck was carrying fell on it.

The two Americans and the Swiss were killed instantly.

Three other tourists whose nationalities were not specified were hospitalized in critical condition in Puntarenas, according to the prosecution.
