The bunting, the skater area, various bus shelters or the benches next to the miners' memorial chapel: In Peißenberg, young people are always looking for popular meeting places to celebrate in the evenings.

The newest hotspot is the reading garden behind the library - much to the displeasure of the community.

Peißenberg

- The reading garden in the inner courtyard of the Max-Biller-Haus is supposed to be a place for relaxation and contemplation.

But in the past few months the area has become a party mile for young people - including all the negative side effects.

The problem is not just the nocturnal noise, but above all the garbage that the young people leave behind.

In the latest building committee meeting, Stefan Rießenberger (citizens' association) spoke of a “battlefield” with regard to the reading garden: “As a janitor at the middle school, I'm used to a lot, but I've never seen anything like that.” Rießenberger is practically sitting on the “party mile” in the first row.

He is the president of TSV Peißenberg - and the sports club has its office in the old wing of the Max-Biller-Haus.

From the terrace, Rießenberger has the best view of the party going on.

He sought a dialogue with the young people - but without success.

The majority of the young people, according to Rießenberger, did not even come from Peißenberg.

The community must now act immediately and put a stop to the vandalism: “The message must be tough.

The young people are just taking it too far, ”said Rießenberger.

His demand: "An alcohol ban must urgently be imposed."

Alcohol is already banned

There is already such a thing in Peißenberg in public places and traffic routes - according to the municipal special use statute.

The set of rules was issued a few years ago after various bus shelters were repeatedly abused as party hotspots.

According to the statutes, it is forbidden to “sit down to enjoy alcohol” in public places.

Of course, this also applies to the reading garden.

The community has already discussed the vandalism problem with the police and library manager Armin Groß.

Possible solutions were discussed that did not result in a general closure or fencing of the inner courtyard.

"The vandalism is a shame because the reading garden is an asset to the library," said Mayor Frank Zellner (CSU) in the committee.

WLAN is switched off in the evening and a bright spotlight is switched on

Two measures have already been implemented: The free WiFi is only activated between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

In addition, the area is brightly illuminated at night with a spotlight from Schongauer Straße.

"That should make the stay more uncomfortable", explains the clerk of the public order, Andreas Fischer, when asked by the local newspaper.

In addition, the security guard and the police are to be more present at the reading garden in the future.

A conclusion on whether the measures are effective in curbing vandalism, says Fischer, can only be drawn in the spring.

“Due to the weather”, the young people would not meet outdoors that often at the moment.

The reading garden has recently been the municipality's only problem child in terms of “vandalism”.

In the warmer months of the year, Fischer predicts, “the bunting will definitely come back”: “We will probably never get the problem under control there.” According to Fischer, however, the situation on the parking deck on the Rigi Center.

In addition to the police, the owner of the private area also works with the street worker commissioned by the community.
