The Associated Press quoted a fire official as saying, "The big fire broke out in an apartment in the Bronx neighborhood in New York City," noting that it was one of the worst fires in the city in recent times.
The official pointed out that the investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
Today's fire incident came just days after a house fire in Philadelphia killed 12 people, including eight children.
