Dark day on the A11 motorway.
A 30-year-old man died in a severe weather-related accident.
It is a little after 1:00 p.m. when a car loses control due to a violent hailstorm at the Ablis exit, in the province-Paris direction.
The very slippery pavement due to the ice sheets forming causes a chain reaction.
The pile-up involves a heavy truck and seven light vehicles, three of which end up in a ditch.
The driver, who died, was in one of them.
Helicopters rescuing on the tracks
Two seriously injured people were urgently helicoptered to Paris hospitals. Four others, slightly injured, were also taken care of by the firefighters. "Even when the rescue teams were already engaged, we continued to receive calls to say that the accidents were continuing," says the departmental fire and rescue service (Sdis) of 78. Some vehicles collided. The cars involved were scattered for several hundred meters. Two out of three traffic lanes remained closed for nearly two hours.
A little later around 2 p.m., a few kilometers away, the hail caused a second pile-up, on the A10 this time, at Saint-Martin-de-Bréthencourt, in the Province-Paris direction.
There again a dozen motorists successively lost control of their vehicle, which collided over approximately 400 meters.
Three also ended up in the ditch.
The balance sheet shows two seriously injured, including a man who had to be extricated from his vehicle.
He is injured in the back and neck.
A third person who was more mildly affected refused to be taken care of.
