A 47-year-old, mentally confused man was arrested on Saturday evening by a special unit of the Munich police headquarters in his Weilheim apartment.

The armed man had previously locked himself in the apartment and threatened to commit suicide several times over an emergency call.

Weilheim - From 5.30 p.m. onwards, the 47-year-old called the police operations center and the integrated control center repeatedly.

From the course of the conversation it had to be assumed that the caller was in an exceptional psychological situation, according to the report from the police headquarters.

In another call to the operations center of the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South, the man announced his suicide.

Because there were indications that the man was armed with a firearm, a specific danger to the man's immediate surroundings could not be ruled out, the police reported.

Large area cordoned off site

A large contingent of forces from the police and the rescue service then moved to the man's apartment.

Initial police findings confirmed that the man who had locked himself in his apartment was in possession of a weapon.

The other residents of the apartment building on Giesingerstraße were then evacuated by the police and looked after by the Bavarian Red Cross.

On the basis of the findings, a special unit from the Munich police headquarters as well as emergency services from the negotiating group who had been specially trained in communication were requested to provide support.

The site of operation was cordoned off over a large area.

Special unit can arrest man without resistance

At around 8.15 p.m., the special forces were able to gain access to the man's apartment and arrest him without resistance.

The 47-year-old was armed with a alarm gun and was apparently under the significant influence of narcotics.

The police reported that he was not injured when he was arrested.

but in the meantime apparently found myself in poor medical condition due to the previous consumption of narcotics.

After a brief initial medical treatment, he was placed in a specialist clinic for further treatment.

The other residents of the apartment building were able to return to their apartments immediately after all police measures had been completed.
