With a master plan “Young people out of the pandemic”, Munich wants to hire more staff and set up funding programs, among other things.

The costs amount to around 2.5 million euros.

Munich - Closed daycare centers, distance learning, hardly any contact with people of the same age and significantly less exercise: the corona pandemic has thrown the lives of children and adolescents upside down.

Before the pandemic, every fifth child was psychologically stressed, but studies show that every third child is now affected.

Families with low incomes or in precarious living conditions have particularly suffered.

Munich wants to set up a master plan: How to get children out of the crisis

The city of Munich now wants to face the current challenges with the master plan “Young people out of the pandemic”, which is to be discussed in advance in the child and youth welfare committee this Tuesday and decided at the meeting of the city council on January 19th.

To relieve the skilled workers in daycare centers, there should be more staff in the education department and compact seminars.

A new information brochure on child protection is also planned.

For schoolchildren, the focus is on eliminating learning backlogs through support programs, creating new exercise offers and promoting reading, language and writing skills.

The day-care center and school social work is to be expanded, and parents could then visit workshops and find out more about the topics of the pandemic.

The city wants to take up to 2.5 million euros in hand.

SPD City Councilor Lena Odell: "We're not leaving anyone behind in the pandemic"

"We're not leaving anyone behind in the pandemic," says SPD councilor Lena Odell.

The focus is particularly on the children and young people who have had to do without so much in the past two years.

“You need the best possible development opportunities.

Our pandemic follow-up fund makes it possible to overcome the consequences of the crisis well.

Because it is important that children can finally experience carefree community, learn and do sports again. "
