Jean Leonetti: "France needs a more coherent Covid-19 strategy"

TRIBUNE - The cardiologist, former minister, criticizes certain health decisions of the government and formulates recommendations.

The Covid-19 pandemic has struck for nearly two years.

This long period of scientific observation must be used to fight this scourge more effectively thanks to objective data which we lacked at the onset of the disease.

It was quickly learned that it was the elderly or those with co-morbidities who developed the most severe forms of the disease.

Mortality, low under 50, increases gradually in people over 65, who represent more than 80% of deaths attributable to Covid-19.

Measures which have no scientific basis or proven effectiveness and which are, moreover, detrimental to freedoms and penalizing economic, social and family life should no longer be proposed.

We now better understand the effectiveness of vaccination, which significantly reduces the risk of severe forms by dividing the risk of death by ten but does not eliminate the risk of transmission of the virus.
