Kazakhstan's Interior Minister Yerlan Turgumbayev announced that the initial damages from the riots in the country are estimated at more than $200 million.
In a statement carried by Russia Today, the Kazakh minister said that during the riots, thieves and rioters looted more than 100 commercial facilities and major banks, and more than 400 vehicles, as well as 346 internal affairs bodies, were damaged and destroyed.
Turgumbayev pointed out that the militants deliberately opened fire indiscriminately in the streets of the city of Almata, which led to the killing of police and military officers and ordinary citizens.
For its part, the National Chamber of Commerce and Businessmen of Kazakhstan said that the total damages to retail chains in Kazakhstan as a result of the riots amounted to approximately $212 million.
The press service of the Competition Protection and Development Agency indicated that trading in the stock exchange will be suspended until the situation in the country stabilizes.
Earlier, Kazakhstan's trade networks estimated the damage caused by the riots at $57 million.
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, confirmed yesterday that it was extremist terrorist gangs trained abroad that led the riots, which resulted in the killing and wounding of dozens of policemen and officers.
