The 22-year-old male prisoner attempted to cross the scorpion at the Siu Lam Psychiatric Treatment Centre yesterday (8th). Correctional services staff stopped it in time and the incident was transferred to the police. The male prisoner was mentally ill and was sentenced to a hospital order for theft.
The incident happened at 6:59 p.m. yesterday evening. Correctional officers led the 22-year-old male inmate from the day activity room back to the cell. On the way, the inmate suddenly ran towards the hillside in the direction of the fence in an attempt to cross the chasm.
Correctional officers immediately chased after him and quickly subdued the inmate.
During the incident, the person in custody was not injured. Two correctional officers suffered injuries to their feet during the chase. After being examined and treated by the hospital doctor, they were transferred to a public hospital for further treatment.
