Education constitutes the first challenge for democracies and the most effective lever for exiting the crisis they are going through, which has no equivalent since the 1930s. It is indeed key for productivity, which depends on human capital in a knowledge economy, for social cohesion and the reduction of inequalities, for citizenship, confidence in representative institutions and resistance to authoritarian temptations.
The collapse of the French education system is therefore a major obstacle to the reconstruction of our country and one of its most worrying weaknesses for the future.
Its crisis is now systemic.
It affects its performance, with the decline since 2000 in the Pisa ranking from 15 and 11 ranks in reading and mathematics to 23rd and 25th: 40% of children do not master in sixth the basics of reading, writing and of calculation.
