Geoffroy Didier, director of communication for Elysee candidate Valérie Pécresse, estimated Sunday, January 9 that the LR mayors who would give their sponsorship to Eric Zemmour "would
exclude themselves
" from the party.

"
The mayors are free to make their own choices
" and "
no instructions are given
" by LR, he assured Radio J. But "
an elected LR is intended to support the candidate of the Republicans
" and if elected LR sponsored the far-right candidate, "
they would no longer belong to Republicans, they would exclude themselves from Republicans, in fact
," he said.
However, he wishes "
personally that Eric Zemmour, that Marine Le Pen, and that Jean-Luc Mélenchon can have their (500) sponsorships and be candidates since they embody a current of thought
". And to insist: "
There are 40,000 local elected officials, whoever does not manage to have 500 sponsorships will find it difficult to become President of the Republic and to bring together the French
". He nevertheless wishes "
that we come back to the law which put an end to the anonymity of sponsorship
" because elected officials "
are afraid of pressure or of the image that this will give
".
On the far right, Eric Zemmour keeps repeating his difficulty in obtaining the 500 sponsorships, despite the good polls with which he is credited.
He appealed this week to the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) which replied that it had no competence in the matter.
"
Helping him is not my role and it is not the role of the Republicans
," Valérie Pécresse said on Saturday.
According to her, "
when a political figure represents a current of thought in public opinion, he must be able to stand for the presidential election
".
