Sometimes nothing went on the autobahns on Saturday night.

The conditions on the slopes were mostly good.

Offenbach - Snowfalls led to obstructions on the streets in Hessen at the weekend.

In the winter sports areas, however, people were happy about the fresh snow.

According to the German Meteorological Service, the next week starts "no precipitation".

On Saturday night, snowfalls led to traffic delays and accidents. According to the police, traffic on motorways 3 and 5 came to a complete standstill at times. Trucks standing sideways blocked the A3 in the Taunus. The police completely blocked the stretch between the Wiesbadener Kreuz and the Limburg Süd junction for almost five hours in both directions. Motorists were stuck in a traffic jam. Clearance vehicles did not come through. Cars and trucks were left with dead batteries.

On the A5, traffic between Bad Homburg and Friedberg came to a standstill.

In the direction of Frankfurt, too, there were impairments due to a closed blanket of snow.

In Roßdorf (Darmstadt-Dieburg district) in southern Hesse, a 46-year-old driver collided with an oncoming car in heavy snowfall.

Two occupants of the car were injured and were taken to a hospital.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), there were around 26 centimeters of snow on the Feldberg in the Taunus on Saturday morning. In Limburg an der Lahn there was around eight centimeters of snow, in the Rhine-Main area around four centimeters of snow. According to the DWD, 23 centimeters were on Hesse's highest mountain - the 950 meter high Wasserkuppe in the Rhön. There the snowfall area had passed south in the night, as a meteorologist said.

Hesse's winter sports areas and their guests were delighted: on the Wasserkuppe (district of Fulda), 20 centimeters of fresh snow fell on Saturday. “The conditions are ideal,” said lift operator Florian Heitmann on Sunday. However, more people came on Saturday - because of further snowfalls, some "did not get through" on Sunday. The police reported on Sunday afternoon that the parking space around the Wasserkuppe was exhausted.

There was also fresh snow in the north Hessian town of Willingen (Waldeck-Frankenberg district).

"Things are looking up at the moment," said Susanne Schulten, press spokeswoman for the Sauerland winter sports arena.

The onset of winter brought a small upturn.

Gradually, more lifts would go into operation.

"The lift operators are now hoping to build up snow reserves over the course of January, among other things by making snow, and thus to be able to go well secured into the second main season in February."

The 2G rule currently applies in the outdoor area in Willingen and on the Wasserkuppe, so only those who have been vaccinated or recovered have access.

To avoid too much rush, the box offices in Willingen are closed, tickets can only be booked online.
