Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed that the Russian delegation to the negotiations with the United States on security guarantees in Geneva carries with it practical ideas regarding these guarantees.
Zakharova said in statements reported by Russia Today: Russia's diplomats and soldiers have arrived in Geneva, and it is planned that this evening they will hold the first round of negotiations with the Americans on a small scale on security issues.
Zakharova indicated that this work will continue tomorrow in an expanded manner, and therefore the days of January 9 and 10 will be devoted to negotiations in a more in-depth manner.
At the end of 2021, Russia published two draft treaty with the United States and an agreement with NATO on security guarantees.
Moscow is asking its Western partners to provide binding legal guarantees for their abandonment of the idea of NATO expansion to the east, the inclusion of Ukraine in the alliance, and the establishment of military bases in the former Soviet republics.
