A group of 27 fishermen were rescued from a piece of ice that broke off the coast of Green Bay in Wisconsin on Saturday, authorities informed the NBC News network.
"The ice is parting!" Shouted several people when the shore broke, with the roar of a gunshot, around 10 in the morning near Point Comfort, in the bay that reaches Lake Michigan, according to reports The Washington Post.
The detached chunk of ice floated for an hour and a half to nearly a mile from shore before the trapped people could be rescued in rescue teams' boats.
There were no injuries.

"I heard that the ice had moved about 2,000 feet away from where it originally was," Lt. John Bain of the Brown County Sheriff's Office told a news conference.
The rescue mission included the Coast Guard, New Franken and Green Bay fire departments, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Local authorities are working to determine the cause of the incident, but point out that it could be due to the passage of a ship traveling through the bay.
They also asked the population to take precautionary measures and always be informed about weather conditions.
"The current and the winds, things can change quickly, and you are not always aware that they are changing," Bain said.
