To fight against noise pollution, especially those from two-wheelers, the Toulouse town hall will test an anti-radar radar at the start of the year.

It is a street equipped with many speed bumps and limited to 30 km / h but it remains one of the noisiest in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), according to Cerema (center for studies and expertise on risks, environment, mobility, planning).

With its long straight line conducive to bursts of speed, rue Louis Plana has become fashionable for urban rodeos, a sound plague for residents.

It is for this reason that the town hall of Toulouse decided to experiment with noise reduction radar on this artery in 2022. A device tested in six cities in France, including Paris.

“The anti-noise radar is perched on a lighting pole and is equipped with five microphones connected to the video surveillance system and a 360-degree camera, underlines Patricia Bez, deputy mayor in charge of health.

There will be two experimental phases of six months each where the radar will note the noise of the vehicles but it will not verbalize.

The problem is often the tampered with two-wheelers and the idea is to identify them.

In a second step, if the first phase is conclusive, we could verbalize ”.

"In the evening, when there is less traffic, we can hear motorcycles and scooters having fun under our windows, it's quite unbearable," says Sarah, who has lived in a building on the edge of rue Louis Plana for ten years. 'years.

And the summer is worse, because our windows are wide open, we can no longer hear the television.

It is a beginning to put an anti-noise radar but to be effective, we need sanctions, fines ”.
