The European Copernicus Program for Earth Observation announced that the last seven years were the hottest on record, confirming the progress of global warming.
This is a stark reminder of the need to take effective and decisive measures to move towards a sustainable society and work to reduce carbon emissions to confront global warming, said Carlo Buontempo, director of the Copernican Climate Change Service, as saying.
According to the Copernicus program, the year 2021 recorded a higher average temperature of between 2.1 and 1.1 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial era from 1850 to 1900, which is a reference comparison to measure the warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions caused by human activity.
The records of the Copernicus Program showed that, on average, the year 2021 ranks slightly ahead of 2015 and 2018, with 2016 remaining the hottest year, adding that carbon dioxide, the main cause of global warming, which comes mainly from the combustion of fossil fuels and cement production, reached a record level at 3.414 parts per million. .
