British Republicans have announced that they will campaign to end the monarchy in their country in the run-up to celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's accession to the throne.
Reuters reported that a group of anti-monarchy Republicans took advantage of the preparations to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's accession to the throne to say they would launch a campaign to demand an end to the historic monarchy in Britain.
One of the group, Graham Smith, said: "While a vocal minority want to celebrate the Queen's 70th anniversary, we must all begin to look to the future."
He considered that the idea of Prince Charles on the throne is not optimistic and that there is a good democratic alternative before us, adding, "It is time for a serious dialogue about our constitution and recognition that Charles is not the best for this position and that we as a nation are fully capable of choosing the leader of our country."
Today, Buckingham Palace revealed detailed plans for four-day celebrations to mark the occasion, and polls indicate a growing conviction among young Britons about the idea of the republic.
The 95-year-old is the world's oldest and longest-reigning monarch, and next month will celebrate the 70th anniversary of her accession to the British throne.
