Brussels-Sana

The European Union announced today that it will allow travelers from seven countries in southern Africa to enter its territory and lift the decision to suspend travel from these countries, which was taken at the end of last November, in an attempt to stop the outbreak of Omicron caused by the Corona virus.

"At a time when the highly contagious Omicron has spread throughout Europe, the 27 countries have agreed to lift the state of emergency to allow the resumption of air navigation with southern African countries," the French presidency of the Union said on its Twitter account.

It is scheduled that travelers from the seven countries concerned will remain subject to the health measures applied to arrivals from third countries and may include submitting a negative “alarm” examination that will be conducted no later than 72 hours before departure.

The member states of the European Union agreed in late November to impose restrictions on all flights from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe, the countries where the new mutant Omicron was detected.

It is noteworthy that Omicron has spread widely in the European Union in many countries, including France, Belgium and Denmark, during the past two weeks, but “Delta” is the most dominant in the rest of the European continent.
