Kaufbeuren - A hitherto unknown perpetrator put the crew of a police helicopter and thereby an entire rescue operation in danger last Saturday.
According to the police report, the air rescuers were around 3 a.m. to support the police and the rescue service in the area above Kaufbeuren.
A person with serious injuries had to be cared for in the Wertachau area.
While the police helicopter was illuminating the scene with searchlights, someone attacked the crew with a laser.
The crew was then forced to cancel air support.
According to the police, an on-board attendant was "massively blinded".
The laser attack was so strong that it has to be clarified whether the air rescuer will suffer permanent damage.
This can only be determined after the completion of treatment in a special clinic, according to the police.
The investigators located the laser attack in the area of Hans-Seibold-Straße.
Investigations are now underway because of the dangerous interference in air traffic and serious bodily harm.
The officers are now looking for witnesses.
