Greece has tightened the entry rules due to the Omikron variant.

On top of that, the vaccination certificates lose their validity earlier.

In Greece, too, the number of new infections with the corona virus has risen rapidly in recent days.

Almost 35,000 new cases are added every day.

The 7-day incidence has risen to 2,402 as of January 10.

Therefore, like many other European countries, the government has tightened its entry measures.

Greece adopts stricter entry rules - also for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered

Since Monday (January 10th),

all immigrants aged five and over have to present a negative PCR test or rapid antigen test

- regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or have recovered.

The negative PCR test must not be older than 72 hours on arrival, the rapid test must not be older than 24 hours.

The new measure will initially apply

until January 24

, as reported by the German press agency, citing the civil aviation authority and the national borders.

In addition, travelers must continue to register online before they can enter Greece.

This is used to generate a QR code that must be presented.

Vaccination certificates only valid for seven months: What this changes for travelers

In addition to the stricter entry rules, the Greek government has decided on another change: From now on, vaccination certificates should

only be valid for a maximum of seven months

- unless a booster follows.

This measure has been in place for over 60-year-olds since mid-December, but

from February 1

it should also apply to all other adults.

This also has consequences for travelers: with the European vaccination certificates, crossing the border is valid for up to nine months after the second vaccination, but in the country itself the same rules apply to holidaymakers as to locals.

This means that there are restrictions, especially when it

comes to access to leisure activities

: restaurants, cinemas, museums or clubs can only be visited with 2G proof.

In addition, the certificate of vaccination or recovery must be presented in printed form using an app or a QR code.

The yellow vaccination book is therefore not accepted in Greece.
