The Messina Assize Court sentenced a man, Luigi De Domenico, accused of voluntary murder to 22 years: he allegedly transmitted AIDS to his partner, a lawyer, kept in the dark about the disease and died years later without being able to seek treatment.
In fact, the woman did not know that her partner was HIV positive.
Other women testified about the affair to whom De Domenico had kept silent about being HIV positive.
In another trial, still in progress, three doctors are accused of having contributed to causing the woman's death, not realizing the AIDS infection and not having specific tests.
