A hearing on the Netanyahu family's lawsuit against former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will open this morning (Monday) in the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court.

The family filed a defamation lawsuit in the amount of NIS 837,000 against Olmert, who called them "mentally ill" in interviews he gave.

Yesterday, the family asked the court to allow them to participate in the hearing from a distance, instead of physically reaching it, but the judge rejected it.

According to the plaintiffs, their request to participate in a remote hearing stems from "the rate of infection is increasing and the morbidity has increased to dimensions we have not yet seen."

The vice president of the court, Judge Amit Yariv, rejected the family's request, stating that she must appear for the hearing physically, since "such a request the plaintiffs should have submitted long ago, and not 24 hours before the date of the hearing."

The judge further noted that the hearing will be held in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, adding: "Next, it is proposed that the plaintiffs submit such requests at an earlier date, which will allow them to be seriously examined."

Last May, members of the Netanyahu family filed a defamation lawsuit against Olmert in the amount of NIS 837,000, after they claimed in interviews that they were "mentally ill."

In July, Olmert's attorneys, Amir Titonovich and Efrat Akel-Azulai, submitted a letter of defense on his behalf to the court, demanding that the three members of the Netanyahu family undergo a medical psychiatric examination

. , And that Olmert expressed his opinion in good faith and out of sincere anxiety about the fate of the State of Israel under Netanyahu's rule.
