The corona virus is rampant on the popular German holiday island of Sylt.

Many companies have therefore decided to voluntarily take the Corona break.

Apparently a Christmas party was the trigger for the now increasing number of cases on Sylt.

Among the around 100 guests who met in a pub on Christmas Eve, 23 people tested positive for the corona virus in the following days.

On Christmas Eve itself, the island had only 30 infected.

After that, the 7-day incidence on the Nordic island rose to a value of over 1,500, 476 people have contracted Covid-19 and 572 are in quarantine.

The holiday island has become a Corona hotspot * within a very short time.

Numerous tourist businesses and more than 20 restaurants have already responded with a voluntary Corona break, as reported by the

world

.

Sylt as a corona hotspot: companies voluntarily say goodbye during winter break

According to the report, numerous cafes, restaurants and pubs have already closed their doors in the past few days, while others have announced longer company holidays for the coming weeks. Some of them cite

corona and quarantine cases among the employees

as the reason for the closure, while others emphasize that a

break would have been planned for the beginning of the year

anyway . Some hotels are also following this example, including “Miramar” in Westerland. Managing director Nicolas Kreis explained the

Sylter Rundschau

that it is a “pure precautionary measure” that is taken “to protect our employees”.

Not far away, however, in the “Stadt Hamburg” hotel, at least ten employees tested positive for the corona virus.

The house has been closed since last Wednesday.

Health department overwhelmed: infected people have to inform contact persons themselves

According to

Welt

, the responsible health department for the district of North Friesland is overwhelmed with the numerous new infections. On the mainland, where many Sylt employees have, the incidence has also increased enormously. Therefore, the authority can no longer keep up with the contact tracing. Since the weekend, people who have tested positive have

not been called personally anymore

, but only receive an SMS with the text: “Your PCR test result is positive. You are now in quarantine. You can find more information at www.nordfriesland.de/positiv. "In addition, those infected are obliged to" inform their close contacts of the last two days about their Covid 19 infection themselves. "

After all, according to tourism director Moritz Luft, the infected have so far been spared from severe courses.

As he told the world, as far as he knew, no one had to be taken to hospital so far.

The companies could also probably cope with the spontaneous Corona break.

After the turn of the year it is quieter there anyway.
