What actually happened to Maddie McCann?

A German is in the sights of the investigation into the girl who has disappeared since 2007.

But now there is a significant turning point.

Praia da Luz - There is still no trace of Madelein McCann.

The then three-year-old disappeared on May 3, 2007 from an apartment in a holiday complex in Portugal.

The parents still hope to find their daughter, to bring the truth to light.

Last year in May, Kate and Gerry McCann actually wanted to celebrate their 18th birthday with Maddie.

Missing case Maddie: German in the sights of the investigators

Again and again speculations and clues about Maddie’s whereabouts surfaced.

But then, in mid-2020, there was a spectacular turnaround in the missing person case: A German was suddenly in the sights of the investigators in the case of the missing person Maddie McCann.

The Braunschweig public prosecutor's office, together with the Metropolitan Police and the Polícia Judiciária, launched an appeal for witnesses.

The sex offender with multiple criminal records is serving a sentence of several years in a prison in Lower Saxony for raping a 72-year-old American woman in 2005 in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

About a year and a half after this act, Maddie disappeared from a nearby apartment complex.

The German lived regularly in the Algarve between 1995 and 2007 - including a few years in a house between Lagos and Praia da Luz.

The BKA and the public prosecutor's office consider the German to be the man who allegedly abducted the then three-year-old Maddie McCann from an apartment in Portugal and killed her.

Maddie McCann: Does the Prime Suspect have an alibi?

Another turning point is now emerging.

The suspect Christian B. is exonerated by a witness.

As reported by the British

, the police are said to have found an alibi for the suspect.

This investigation into the Maddie McCann case is reported in a British TV documentary that has not yet been broadcast.

The 44-year-old main suspect is said to have been 30 minutes from Praia da Luz in Portugal at the time of the disappearance of the girl not at the crime scene.

As the

reports, there is said to be a woman who claims to have spent almost every evening with the suspect around the time of the crime in May 2007.

The police have already interrogated the witness.

But whether the woman had also spent the night of the crime with the man, she could not remember.

After the disappearance of little Maddie, the suspect reportedly showed no behavioral changes.

Is there any hope of solving the Maddie McCann case?

Is the new witness credible?

Many questions are still open at first.

"The situation is essentially unchanged," said the spokesman for the Braunschweig public prosecutor's office, Hans Christian Wolters, of the dpa news agency in December 2021. According to him, the investigations are continuing unchanged in the background, but details are not given.

His client has not yet commented on allegations related to Madeleine McCann, said one of the defenders of the suspect of the dpa.
