Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) has blamed the owner of MV Werften in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for the bankruptcy.
Habeck said on Monday in Berlin at the request of the German Press Agency: “As the federal government, we have pulled out all the stops to avoid the bankruptcy of MV Werften and thus save jobs.
Berlin - However, the owners have turned down our offer of help;
the filing of bankruptcy is the result. "
After weeks of anxiety, this was "bitter news" for the employees of the shipyard and for the region, according to Habeck.
“As someone who lives in a shipyard town, I know what that means.
Of course, we will remain in close contact with the state government over the next few weeks about the future of MV Werften. "
The MV Werften in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania filed for bankruptcy on Monday.
The cause are the financial difficulties of the parent company Genting Hong Kong, especially as a result of the Corona crisis.
The negotiations between the federal government and the state on the one hand and MV Werften and Genting Hong Kong on the other hand over a rescue package had not led to a positive result.

According to reports, the federal government had repeatedly assured that it wanted to provide around 600 million euros from the state economic stabilization fund.
A ship built at MV Werften should be used as security for this.
The owners' own contribution was a contribution of 60 million euros plus guarantees for the federal funds in question.
