Prince Charles is known for his love of nature.

But the fact that the Royal also successfully wields the brush is less.

Now his watercolors can even be seen in an exhibition.

London - It is the first comprehensive exhibition of his work to depict scenes in the open air in Scotland, France, Africa and other countries.

The Prince of Wales only paints watercolors and has probably laboriously taught himself the technique.

The British heir to the throne reveals the beginning of his passion for sketches and colors on an exhibition board.

The sheer mass of 79 paintings is much more than a hobby.

After all, the eldest son of the British Queen Elizabeth II (95) has a packed schedule, a wife, children, and loads of grandchildren who, in addition to his great commitment as an accomplished nature lover and savior, keep him busy.

Prince Charles (73) apparently found enough time for another, for him rather unknown form of expression, which one trusts him, but with which he has never peddled.

The beginnings of his work are documented on an exhibition board with typically British understatement.

He would have started painting after he found photography, a passion of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, “no longer so satisfying”.

"The Scotsman" also revealed the prince why the painting continued despite a process that was initially felt to be difficult.

"I just felt an overwhelming urge to express what I was seeing through the medium of watercolor," said Charles.

If he now looks at the sketches from the early days, he is appalled at how bad they are.

Prince Charles, the painter: As a creative in good company among royals

Prince Charles is not the only member of the royal family with an artistic talent.

His niece, Princess Eugenie (31), has turned her artistic skills as an art director into a profession.

Duchess Kate (40) has already exhibited her photographs and is making sketches.

Last year she shared one of them on Instagram.

The watercolors of the royal heir to the throne will be on view in the Garrison Chapel in London until February 14th.
