The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Moscow is seeking, through its bilateral talks with the United States on European security, to test Washington's ability to take responsible decisions at this difficult time for European security.
This came during an interview with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov with (Sputnik) agency today, in which he pointed out the difficulty of the United States holding bilateral talks with his country, due to the so-called (Russophobia) of a wide range of its partners in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
"Our approach is different because we would like first of all to reach an agreement with the United States and to check its ability to make responsible decisions in the current difficult and worrisome moment from the point of view of European security," Ryabkov said on the eve of his meeting with the US representative in Geneva on security guarantees.
Today, Geneva is hosting negotiations behind closed doors between Russia and the United States on the issue of security guarantees in light of increasing tension in Russian-Western relations, followed tomorrow by a meeting of the NATO Russia Council in Brussels.
