Expanded Russian-American talks on the file of security guarantees began in Geneva today.
The talks are taking place behind closed doors, with the Russian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin, while the US delegation is led by First Deputy Foreign Minister Wendy Sherman.
The Russian and American delegations are scheduled to discuss the issue of mutual security guarantees.
On the 17th of last December, Russia published two draft agreements, one with the United States and the other with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which include provisions on mutual security guarantees in Europe, including the non-deployment of medium and short-range missiles in the areas of access to the opponent’s territory and the alliance’s abandonment of its further expansion. eastward.
On the other hand, the Kremlin announced today that there are no plans to hold a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden, following security talks in Geneva.
During a press briefing, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in response to a question about the possibility of such a contact, "At the present time, there are no agreements in this regard, and it is premature to assess the results of the current talks between Moscow and Washington."
