Historic moment for Freising: at 5.15 p.m. the first traffic rolled through the Vöttinger tunnel of the west bypass.

But before that I had to wait again.

Freising

- Nobody had married, and the jubilee parade was not on the way to celebrate the promotion of SV Vötting to the district league.

And yet the motorists in the west of Freising sounded a polyphonic horn concert on Monday evening.

The reason for the joy of the car drivers was the opening of the Freising Tangente, which connects Thalhauser Strasse and Weihenstephaner Ring with Staatsstrasse 23 50.

Proponents of the bypass had to wait long enough.

Half a century until the road, which now costs around 140 million euros, was realized from the first plans.

And then on Monday it felt like an eternity before the go-ahead for the western bypass was actually fired.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Because actually the traffic should have started rolling around 4 p.m.

But the Freising, who had come by with their car especially to roll over the new asphalt themselves on the historic opening day, had done the bill without the inspectors, who were not rushed to inspect the last technical equipment in the tunnel.

Away with the barrier - and the traffic rolls.

And so it took until around 5.15 p.m. before employees of the building yard and the police pushed the last roadblocks aside and cleared the street. While the first motorists who drove through the 705-meter-long tube honked their horns, more than 50 onlookers who had positioned themselves above the tunnel and stayed there despite the cold also applauded. However, a sprightly senior citizen couldn't take it any longer: After 50 years of waiting and another 50 minutes in the cold, it became too much for her: "" I would have loved to have driven over the tangent on the first day. But no one can expect that. "Said it, waved it off and set off on his way home.

With the approximately three and a half kilometers long west bypass, the city of Freising is to be significantly relieved of through traffic.

The coming weeks will show whether the plan works.

Municipalities west of Freising, especially Allershausen, fear an additional burden.
