Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas asked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during their meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh to pressure Hamas and Islamic Jihad to stop terrorist activities in Judea and Samaria in the near future, the newspaper reported this morning (Monday). According to the report, this request came in light of Abu Mazen's commitment to Defense Minister Bnei Gantz to take control of the situation on the ground, as part of the understandings between the parties at the meeting in Rosh HaAyin.

Sources noted that Abu Mazen's arrival in Egypt on Tuesday, came to satisfy the Egyptians after the meeting in Rosh HaAyin took place without coordination with officials from Cairo.

During yesterday's meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the World Youth Forum, sources said that Abbas had asked al-Sisi to open additional channels of communication between the Palestinian Authority and other senior Israeli government officials, led by Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Yair Lapid.

According to the report, Abu Mazen made it clear that he was interested in meeting with Lapid.

In addition, sources added that Mahmoud Abbas updated al-Sisi on the details of the meeting with Ganz and stressed that the understandings between the parties are mainly security.

According to the sources, the meeting did not match the height of Abu Mazen's expectations, while he suffers from internal crises, both in the Palestinian arena and within the Fatah movement he heads.

Against this background, the report said that Abbas made it clear to the Egyptian president that all the concessions and understandings discussed at the meeting in Rosh HaAyin were related to the PA's functions in Judea and Samaria. against Israel.

According to the sources, Abu Mazen said that he had not been able to obtain a promise from the defense minister regarding the "restraint of the settlers in the West Bank," and that Gantz avoided this when he referred to the actions as a "response."

It was further stated that Abu Mazen informed al-Sisi that no progress had been made at the political level during the meeting and stressed the difficulty of bringing about any political breakthrough during the current period.
