Penzberg - Anything could have happened.

On Sunday morning, the trunk of the 19-meter-high Christmas tree broke in downtown Penzberg.

The spruce, which weighed just over three tons, fell onto the sidewalk on Bahnhofstrasse.

Penzberg - People were not harmed when the Christmas tree in downtown Penzberg fell on Sunday morning.

There was also no property damage, as the police confirmed on Tuesday when asked.

Even a light bollard survived the matter unscathed.

Construction yard manager cites squalls as the reason - "We learn from it"

Building yard manager Christian Eberl was alerted on Sunday at around 8:15 a.m. “It was a huge shock,” he says. Thank God no people were harmed. “We were very lucky.” He cites an “extreme gust of wind” as the reason that the large and very dense tree fell. There had already been several storms the week before, but the spruce weathered them without any problems. There was also no news that she had bent. On Sunday, however, it no longer held up and broke just above the bracket. “We learn from it,” says Eberl. “We will no longer put up trees with such a dimension.” According to him, the view of a passer-by who saw the Christmas tree being put up in November is incorrect. He supposedthat the trunk was cut too thin and the wedges used were too thick. This is not the case, according to Eberl. The trunk is always cut back by people who have trained to 55 to 56 centimeters in diameter for the ground socket with 60 centimeters in diameter, he says.

Eight construction yard employees chopped up the fallen tree on Sunday.

At 11 a.m. everything was cleared and swept up, said Eberl.

The leftovers are put into a wood chip plant.

The chain of lights survived the fall unscathed, except for ten to 15 meters, which have to be replaced.

By the way: the Christmas tree should normally be put down the next day, on Monday.
