The Valley community is cautiously approaching the New Year.

After the second corona year in a row, it is better to save big jumps.

Which doesn't mean there won't be anything to do in 2022.

Not least when it comes to flood protection.

Valley

- Big Projects?

Bernhard Schäfer waves it away.

The Mayor of Valley, who is heading into the third year of his first term of office, prefers to exercise caution.

Still, there's a lot to do in Valley 2022.

Broadband expansion

While the earthworks for the broadband expansion in parts of Grub and Kreuzstrasse as well as for some individual properties are ongoing as part of the “Höfebonus” program and, according to Schäfer, should be completed by the middle of the year, the next expansion stage is in the starting block: for the “Bavarian Gigabit Directive” funding scheme “The tender for Grub should start at the beginning of the year.

The offers received are currently being examined for the fiber optic connection of the school and town hall.

Infrastructure

The municipality does not want to make any big leaps in road construction.

Necessary repair work is estimated at around 800,000 euros.

“It is currently being examined whether these measures need to be taken to the same extent or whether there are less costly alternatives,” says Schäfer.

Schäfer hopes that the Oberlainder railway stop has realistic chances at the beginning of the year, after the preliminary report by the Bavarian Ministry of Transport for autumn 2021 is not yet available.

Meanwhile, the community wants to install photovoltaic systems for their own use on the school and town hall roofs.

The street lighting in the municipality is to be completely converted to LED technology.

Financial development

No big leaps: Behind the tactic there is also concern about the effects of the corona pandemic on the income of the community.

"It is not yet possible to fully estimate how the trade tax will develop," says Schäfer.

From 2022, the municipality must expect the effects from the first Corona year to be reflected in the key figures from which the most important income - trade and income tax - is calculated.

Flood protection

When asked, Schäfer commented on the status of flood protection, which has become more explosive after the devastating effects of the heavy rain of July 26, 2021, especially in Oberdarching, which is already repeatedly affected by floods. "We are currently in the process of implementing the first measures from the integral flood protection and retention concept." The elevation of the dam at the retention basin in Oberdarching is "in planning". The capacity should be increased from around 3,000 to 26,000 cubic meters. "This is also very important for future heavy rain events." In July, the retention basin also filled up during the heavy rain and held back "very large amounts of water" that would otherwise have run into the place, according to Schäfer.

While concrete steps have been taken to create a flash flood risk management system in the neighboring communities of Warngau and Weyarn, the Valley community is currently investigating how to proceed: "We have an offer for flash flood calculations in the Oberdarching district," says Schäfer. "We are in contact with the water management office to clarify how the flash flood calculations can be meaningfully linked to the existing concept." He sees flood protection as a complex task not only for the community: “This is a difficult topic because the water came from the Schmidham flank. You can't move the whole place with one dam.“The local fire brigade is working out concepts and operational plans for future events.

School and care

What about the future of Valleyer Mittelschule after no 5th grade could be formed there in 2020?

“Glass ball”, Schäfer sighs when asked.

“We hope that enough students will come together,” says the mayor.

He and the headmistress Anja Rettich had agreed to sit down after the Christmas break and see what could be done to “put the Valley Middle School in the shop window”.

One thing is clear: if she is unable to form the 5th grade permanently, the small middle school could soon be completely on the brink.

In order to improve the equipment of the Valley School, the community wants to use the DigitalPact School from the federal and state governments.

The commissioned engineering office will present the planned tender in the local council at the beginning of the year.

As far as childcare is concerned, Schäfer sees the community as well-positioned, from daycare to open all-day schools, and needs to be met for the time being.

noise protection

On the hard nut, predetermined breaking points were indicated last spring - and something is actually going on behind the scenes with noise protection on the A8, Schäfer describes when asked, since the procedure for the problematic section in the water protection zone II near Darching from the measures in the less strict protection zone III was decoupled. "The planning for the protective measure in water protection zone III is on the right track," says the Mayor of Valley. "I assume that we will make a big step forward in 2022." For the protective measures in Zone II, complex calculations and water protection measures for the construction phase would still have to be checked.

The turn of the year is an opportunity to look ahead.

What will be possible in 2022 despite the pandemic, what must be deleted?

We asked around in the town halls.
