Today, the Directorate of Agriculture in Homs launched a free campaign of pesticides to combat the pest (the field mouse) that will last for 3 days in the villages of the western countryside of the governorate.
Engineer Younis Hamdan, director of Homs agriculture, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the operations to combat the field mouse began in November of last year, and so far, about 1,100 hectares of infected lands have been combated, but due to the large number of infected spots, a free campaign was launched today in the villages of the Western Center Department and tomorrow in The villages of the Houla Plain, where their supplies of pesticides are secured by the Directorate.
For his part, Dr. Iyad Mohamed, Director of Plant Protection at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, explained that the necessary materials and pesticides are secured free of charge and delivered to farmers’ fields and agricultural associations, calling on farmers to be careful when combating by placing the pesticide within the burrows of mice and not placing them in places of livestock grazing in order to prevent poisoning, explaining that Field mouse damage affects all crops, especially wheat and barley in the sepal stage.
Engineer Ahmed Al-Hussein, head of the Department of Prevention in the Directorate, indicated that the weather conditions, high temperatures and lack of snow led to the emergence of the field mouse pest, especially in the lands that were deserted, pointing out that coordination is being carried out with the Hama Governorate to implement the control in the adjacent areas to prevent the transmission of the pest to it. .
It is noteworthy that operations to combat the field mouse are carried out annually, especially in the lands of rocky areas that are not subject to cultivation operations.
