The man had fled on foot from the Caen University Hospital, where he had been admitted in the afternoon.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of his death.

In particular, it is not known whether the victim had voluntarily laid down on the road when he was struck by a first car.
A body examination is underway and could shed light on the origin of his injuries, explains the Hôtel de Police de Caen, before specifying that the motorists who collided with the victim will be heard during the investigation.
The man was known to the psychiatric care services of the Caen agglomeration.
