Düsseldorf - The Corona situation in Düsseldorf is still tense.

In the last few days the incidence has skyrocketed.

Compared to the previous day alone, the incidence has increased by 73.5 points.

The RKI reports a value of 674.9 for Tuesday, January 11th.

The incidence in the state capital has never been so high.

With the sad record, Düsseldorf is currently at the top nationwide.

In no other city in North Rhine-Westphalia is the value so high.

Particularly frightening: the proportion of the Omikron variant.

"The current share of this variant of typified new infections in the current calendar week is 89 percent in Düsseldorf," it said at the end of last week.

When asked by 24RHEIN, the city of Düsseldorf confirms that 2477 cases of the virus variant have been identified so far

The Omikron variant has now clearly prevailed over the previously predominant delta variant of the coronavirus.

Since Friday alone, 848 new Omicron cases have been added.

The corona end is not in sight.

"The drastic increase in new infections - as predicted by the RKI at the beginning of December - can be traced back to the Omikron variant, which is now predominant in Düsseldorf," the city continues.

"This spreads much faster than the previous variants."
